Dear Year 6 Children,
My name is Miss Welsby and I am the class teacher in Year 6. I am looking forward to teaching you for the next year and have lots of fun activities and topics planned for you.
As a member of Year 6 you will have many important roles to fulfil. You may be selected as House Captain, a messenger of Hermes to help deliver the Gold Behaviour Award, an ambassador for the school and a guide for Parents Evening to name a few. You may also have the responsibility of being role models to the other children in the school, leading by example at all times, especially with your buddies in Ladybirds.
The information below will help you and answer any questions that you may have.
Your P.E. day is a Friday. Please ensure you have a full kit with you, including suitable footwear. Please don’t wear football kits or gym wear for P.E. You will also be swimming from 4th – 14th October.
Your library session is on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure you find time to read your library book and return it to be changed the following week. If you haven’t finished your book, please bring it back in to be re-stamped for a further week.
Homework will be given out on a Friday and will consist of spellings, tables and a Maths or Grammar/English task. Please ensure all tasks are completed in full and returned by the following Wednesday at the latest. If you need any additional help, please speak to me as soon as you can.
In addition to your homework you are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home (15-20 minutes a night). Make a note of any reading that you do in your reading record, noting any particular parts that you enjoyed or words that you struggled with.
In Year 6 you will have the opportunity to travel back in time to the Ancient Greeks and also to become an evacuee and understand what life was like during World War 2. Your Geography studies will allow you to travel to North America, China, Russia and closer to home, Cumbria. Science will provide you with many opportunities to carry out investigations and deepen your scientific knowledge in relation to light, electricity, evolution and inheritance and plants and animals.

Winmarleigh Hall – Residential (PGL) Finally we have the residential trip to look forward to. We will be going to Winmarleigh Hall, near Preston, for a two day stay from Monday 20th June to Wednesday 22nd June. Whilst there, you will have the opportunity to work as a team, solve problems, develop resilience and become more resourceful in your approach to tasks.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please speak to me or one of the Year 6 team.
