Year 6

Dear Parents and Children,

I am thrilled to introduce myself as the Year 6 class teacher and to begin this new chapter with all of my wonderful Year 5 pupils with whom I thoroughly enjoyed teaching last year. It’s an exciting time as your child steps into their final year of primary school, and I’m eager to share the many learning opportunities that await us.

As the oldest children in the school, Year 6 pupils will be role models for younger students, setting a great example with their behaviour and attitude towards learning. While they continue to build their knowledge and skills through our broad and balanced ARCS curriculum, I also hope to inspire a lifelong love of learning and ensure children enter SATS week confident, calm and fully prepared to succeed to the best of their ability.

This year, the children will dive into exciting topics and activities, including:

· Horror stories and twisted tales

· Exploring the Ancient Greeks and World War II

· Scientific studies of life cycles, electricity, the circulatory system, light, fossils, and sustainability

· A geographical study of Norway and South America

· Learning about influential figures in Maths, Science, English, Design, and Architecture

Additionally, there will be important rolls and responsibilities that come with being a Year 6 student, such as house captains, kindness elves, golden ticket monitors, and owl guardians, to name a few. We also have exciting events to look forward to, including our summer mystery trip and the PGL residential.

Homework in Year 6, will include weekly spellings, times table practice and reading which will be assigned on Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday. Children will be tested every Friday on spelling and times tables. In addition, Talk Cards will be sent home each half term, encouraging discussions with family and friends.

Reminders

· Library sessions are on Monday afternoons

· P.E. takes place on Friday mornings – children should bring their PE kits to school and change on site

· Please ensure reading packs are brought to school every day

· School doors open at 8:35 am, so please ensure prompt arrival

I am truly looking forward to another magical year of learning, positivity, and success.

Thank you for your continued support.

Warm regards, Miss Gregory
