Attendance

Make Every Day Count!
School plays an important role in children’s development, both academically and socially. Pupils with poor attendance are five times less likely to achieve five GCSE pass grades and this can have a major impact on their future career and further education options.

Attending school regularly provides children and young people with the very best start in life by ensuring they have opportunities to learn, develop, achieve and succeed. It also provides a great opportunity to socialise, meet new friends and try new things. Having a regular routine too is essential to your child’s development – regular bedtime routine as well as morning routine, including attending school on time.

Cllr Margaret Harvey, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said “Our school years are some of the most important years of our lives. Let’s all work together to ensure our children and young people succeed and achieve their potential by making sure they make every day count by attending school regularly and achieving 100% attendance.”

If you have concerns around your child’s attendance, please speak to their teacher at the earliest opportunity. There is a range of support available to you.

Remember, if your child is sick, contact the school immediately to authorise their absence. Any unauthorised absence can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued.
