Year 5

My name is Mrs Critchley and I am the class teacher in Year 5. I have spent the last 10 years in Year 6, so this year is a new challenge for me and I am looking forward to it.

I have worked at Evelyn for 22 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I am a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Maths and Assessment subject leader, Global and Cultural Lead and I am about to take on important role linked to raising attendance across the school.

In year 5 you will be taught be me or Mrs Rivers and we also have Mrs Talbot on the team as our super talented Teaching Assistant. We do like you to be equally respectful to all members of staff and always work hard.

I love giraffes (you can see lots of them in my classroom!), reading, listening to music, watching musicals at the theatre, attending concerts and watching Strictly Come Dancing! I was lucky enough to watch the Hallowe’en Special being filmed live in the studio last year! In school I enjoy teaching Science and Maths and love to choreograph dance routines with Mrs Talbot.

During your time in Year 5, you will learn about the Egyptians, Mayans and Victorians in History. In Geography you will look at extreme weather, the Grand Canyon and water worlds. As part of our science lessons we will look at Forces, Space, Global Warming and Plastic Pollution and much, much more. Our lessons are taught in the Science Lab which makes them even better. Historical fiction, Myths and Legends, Adventure stories, poetry and much more awaits you as we dive into some fantastic texts in English. The list of interesting, awe-inspiring lessons will keep you engaged and wanting to learn more.

We have library on Tuesday, P.E on Thursday and the reading timetable on Seesaw will tell you when your reading day is. Homework is handed out on Friday, and I would like it returned by the following Thursday at the latest.

Please make sure you wear the correct school uniform and P.E kit and that all your clothing has your name written clearly inside it.

I look forward to teaching you all and I also love to win awards, so make sure you are in every day so we can win the class attendance award!
