Meet Our Governors

"I am proud to have been associated with Evelyn CP school for over 30 years, both as a parent and now as Chair of the Governing Body.

The school goes from strength to strength and it never surprises me to see how many old pupils from the community choose our school for their sons and daughters.

My role as Chair is to ensure the Governing body works as an effective dynamic team in partnership with the school, to set the Vision for the school by providing a safe environment which enables all pupils to reach their potential. In fact a truly “magical” place to learn.

Our innovative curriculum is truly unique and our Student Exit Profile helps pupils to leave our school as all rounded individuals socially, morally, economically, emotionally, spiritually and culturally

Evelyn CP never rests on its laurels and continues to find new ways to make life in school stimulating and challenging for all pupils and make them feel valued

I do hope this website provides you with all the information you need

Please visit our school to find out for yourself how wonderful an “Evelyn experience” and as all Evelyn children are encouraged to do “Reach for the Stars”!

Mrs Lesley Campbell-Hunter, Chair of the Governing Body

ANNE BROPHY

Governor role:

Staff governor

About myself;

I have been teaching for over 25 years.  I have been at Evelyn CP School since September 2000.  I am Early Years and Key Stage 1 lead, which means I oversee teaching and learning across the school. I am also the Deputy Headteacher.

I am part of the school Leadership Team and help Miss Macleod to make important decisions about our school and curriculum.

Outside of school, I love to go on long walks with my dog, Jip.  I am quite creative and love to sew and draw.  I also love watching films and reading books.

Why I decided to become a school governor;

I have always enjoyed being a teacher at Evelyn, so when I became a governor a few years ago, I wanted to represent the views of teachers and be their voice, but I also wanted to be more aware of the running of the school and see how important decisions were made.

I was recently appointed acting Deputy Headteacher.

The time in my governor role has given me an excellent overview of the school.

What I believe the school vision to be:

At the centre of Evelyn CP School is the child.  We aim to produce well rounded, respectful, passionate children who have the skills to learn and do well.  Every Child Matters!

I believe the 5 most important characteristics a person needs to work in our school are;

  • Passionate

  • Motivated
  • Adaptable

AMANDA CASEY

Governor role:

Co-opted governor

Standards and Quality committee

Why I decided to become a school governor;

As an Assistant Pathway Leader for the EYPGCE programme at EHU, there is already a strong partnership link between school and the university, and I wanted to develop this link further, as I feel that the school has the right kind of philosophy for improving children’s outcomes, as my own.

Additionally, I was a parent of a child at Evelyn CP school, many years ago, and it was this excellent teaching and preparation for lifelong learning that encouraged me to train to be a teacher.

What I believe the school vision to be:

To ensure that all children, regardless of their challenges, have every opportunity to achieve their full potential in a safe, caring and nurturing environment.

I believe the 5 most important characteristics a person needs to work in our school are;

  1. A strong knowledge of how children learn best
  2. An understanding and caring nature for supporting children academically and personally
  3. Have a clear understanding of the school’s values and principles and be able to both clearly articulate these and demonstrate these in their daily interactions with the children and their families
  4. Know the area and its challenges and understand how to draw from the local community and wider ‘Evelyn’ family, to support greater and more robust learning
  5. Be happy in their work, feel safe to ask questions and be brave to voice opinions

VICTORIA HARFORD

Governor role:

Parent Governor

About myself;

I work as a private tutor for primary aged children.  I love working with children to find different ways for them to understand subjects or topics that they may be finding tricky or finding ways to expand their learning in a subject that they love.
I enjoy watching motorsport, reading, cycling and camping in our little campervan.  I also like making things.  In my spare time I knit, crochet and occasionally sew.

Why I decided to become a school governor;

I have been involved with Evelyn for some time; first as a trainee teacher, then a volunteer and also as a parent.  I think that Evelyn is a wonderful school and wanted to be more involved.

What I believe the school vision to be:

That the children should be encouraged to have a passion for learning and leave the school as well rounded citizens. Not just having a good broad education in all of the core and foundation subjects but also having obtained practical skills that will help them throughout their lives.

I believe the 5 most important characteristics a person needs to work in our school are;

Adaptable, passionate, caring, committed, respectful to all.

CHRIS PEARSE

Governor Role:
Parent Governor

About myself;

I am delighted to be a Parent Governor for Evelyn CPS.  I have 3 daughters currently in the school who love their time there.

I feel passionately about education as these are the years in which our next generation are given the building blocks for their futures.  I was lucky enough to obtain a great education myself from Primary School all the way through to A Levels and Higher Education where I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering, so I am aware of how important a great education is to set a child up to reach their full potential.

In my day-to-day job I have a track record of being able to implement effective process changes through Continuous Improvement Initiatives and use my analytical background to scrutinise data.  These are qualities I believe I can use in my position of Parent Governor.

Outside of my work life, my family and friends mean the world to me.  I also have a keen interest in Football and Golf as well as an obsession with anything Aerospace related.

Why I decided to become a school governor;

I decided to put myself forward to become a school governor because I have a desire to continue the great work which has been done by the school.  My intention is to help in ensuring Evelyn is the best possible school it can be for the children, parents, teachers as well as the local community.
By being a school governor, I believe this is a unique position to be in to give back to the community and aid the continuing development of the school.

I believe the 5 most important characteristics a person needs to work in our school are;

      Dedicated, Enthusiastic, Respectful (our one school rule), Resilient and Forward thinking.
