Owls

Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome to Owls Class! My name is Mrs Hearity, and I am delighted to be your child’s teacher this year. Together with our fantastic support team  - Mrs Rivers, Ms McGlashan, Miss Mousley, Mrs Heron and Ms Molloy; we are looking forward to an exciting year of learning, creativity and fun.

In Owls, your child will continue to develop their knowledge and skills through the ARCS Curriculum, which focuses on real-life learning in meaningful contexts. We will explore a wide variety of engaging topics and encourage children to become confident, independent learners who enjoy discovering the world around them.

Here are some important pieces of information for the year ahead:

Library

Our library session will take place every Friday morning. Please ensure your child brings their library book back each Wednesday so that it can be changed for a new one.

Reading

Children will be listened to on a weekly basis in school. Children’s weekly reading books will be accessible via the Oxford Owl app.

P.E.

Our P.E. lessons will be on Wednesday. Children should bring in red shorts and a red or white t-shirt for their kit, along with suitable footwear (trainers or pumps). Kits can be kept in a separate bag in school or taken home each week.

Homework

Homework will be set via Seesaw on Friday and should be completed and uploaded by the following Wednesday. This will include some grammar tasks to practise at home as well as times-tables practice. By the end of Owls, children are expected to be fluent in their 2x, 5x and 10x tables.

Topics

This year, children will enjoy a range of exciting topics including exploring different genres in English, The Great Fire of London in History, creative printing in Art, and investigating plants and materials in Science. Our aim is to inspire curiosity, creativity and confidence in every child.

Finally, please ensure your child’s name is clearly labelled inside their uniform, particularly jumpers and cardigans, so that lost property can be returned quickly.

I am thrilled to be working with your children this year and look forward to creating a positive, supportive and inspiring classroom environment together.

Thank you in advance for your support at home; it makes a huge difference to your child’s learning journey.

Warm regards,

Mrs Hearity and the Owls Team.
