At Evelyn CP School, we believe that learning a foreign language is a vital part of preparing pupils for life in a multicultural world. Learning a language builds transferable skills such as listening, memory, creativity and resilience, which support learning across the curriculum. It also promotes curiosity, respect and appreciation of different cultures.
In Key Stage 2, pupils are taught Spanish in a structured and progressive way. They build on prior knowledge each year, developing accuracy, fluency and cultural understanding. Opportunities are provided to practise their skills across the wider curriculum, ensuring that language learning is meaningful and relevant.
In Key Stage 1, pupils in Robins and Owls have the opportunity to participate in a six-week Spanish after-school club. This early exposure encourages enthusiasm for language learning and lays the groundwork for future study.
As part of our wider cultural programme, children also learn about a range of languages and cultures from around the world, including those spoken by our own school community.
