Year 6

Dear Year 6 Children,

My name is Mrs Critchley and I am the class teacher in Year 6. I am looking forward to teaching you for the next year and have lots of fun activities and topics planned.

As a member of Year 6 you will have many important roles to fulfil. You may be selected as House Captain, a messenger of Hermes to help deliver the Gold Behaviour Award, an ambassador for the school and a guide for Parents Evening, to name a few. You may also have the responsibility of being role models to the other children in the school, leading by example at all times, especially with your buddies in Ladybirds. Additionally, you get to wear your new Grey jumpers instead of the red ones you have worn in previous years.

The information below will help you and answer any questions that you may have.

P.E.
Your P.E. day is a Friday. Please ensure you have a full kit with you, including suitable footwear. Please don’t wear football kits or gym wear for P.E. You will also be swimming from 18th – 28th September.

Library
Your library session is on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure you find time to read your library book and return it to be changed the following week. If you haven’t finished your book, please bring it back in to be re-stamped for a further week.

Homework
Homework will be given out on a Friday and will consist of spellings, tables and a Maths or Grammar/English task. Please ensure all tasks are completed in full and returned by the following Wednesday at the latest. If you need any additional help, please speak to me as soon as you can.

Reading

Your reading days are recorded on your reading wallet. Please ensure that you bring your wallet with you on your set reading day.
I would like you to read at least 3 times a week at home (15-20 minutes a night). Make a note of any reading that you do in your reading record, noting any particular parts that you enjoyed or words that you struggled with.

Curriculum
In Year 6 you will have the opportunity to travel back in time to the Ancient Greeks and also to become an evacuee and understand what life was like during World War 2. Your Geography studies will allow you to travel to South America and Scandinavia, whilst comparing them with our local area. Science will provide you with many opportunities to carry out investigations and deepen your scientific knowledge in relation to light, electricity, evolution and inheritance and plants and animals. We will also be embarking on a new computing curriculum and developing your Spanish speaking and listening skills.

I hope that you are as excited about the year ahead as I am.

Mrs Critchley
