Year 6

Dear Year 6 Children,

My name is Miss Welsby and I am the class teacher in Year 6. I am looking forward to teaching you for the next year and have lots of fun activities and topics planned for you.

As a member of Year 6 you will have many important roles to fulfil. You may be selected as House Captain, a messenger of Hermes to help deliver the Gold Behaviour Award, an ambassador for the school, and a guide for Parents Evening to name a few. You may also have the responsibility of being role models to the other children in the school, leading by example at all times, especially for your buddies in Ladybirds.

The information below will help you and answer any questions that you may have.

Your P.E. day is a Friday. Please ensure you have a full kit with you, including suitable footwear. We will also be swimming from 29th June – 9th July 2020.

Your library session is on Tuesday morning. Please ensure you find time to read your library book and return it to be changed the following week.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and will consist of a spelling list to learn, a Maths activity and a Grammar/English task. Please ensure all tasks are completed in full and returned by the following Wednesday at the latest.

In addition to your homework you are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home (15-20 minutes a night). Make a note of any reading that you do in your reading record, noting any particular parts that you enjoyed or words that you struggled with.

In Year 6 you will have the opportunity to travel back in time to the Ancient Greeks and also to become an evacuee and understand what life was like during World War 2.
Your Geography studies will allow you to travel to North America, China, Russia and closer to home, Cumbria.
Science will provide you with many opportunities to carry out investigations and deepen your scientific knowledge.

Finally we have the residential trip to look forward to. We will be going to PGL for a three day stay on 16th-18th September. Whilst there, you will have the opportunity to work as a team, solve problems, develop resilience and become more resourceful in your approach to tasks.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please speak to me or Mrs Talbot.

Miss Welsby

Lego Stop Motion Animation

As part of the Computing Curriculum, Year 6 have been learning the skills necessary to make their own stop motion animation with Lego. Stop motion animation is a fun and easy way to inspire creativity and is very popular with Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run just two movies that use stop motion that you may have seen.

Here are a selection of our creations, the animations were created using an iPad and the Lego Movie Maker App (free)
