Year 4

Dear Children and Parents,

I am delighted to be teaching in Year 4 and part of the lower Key Stage 2 team again. Year 4 is an exciting year and the end of Milestone 2.

The broad and balanced curriculum we provide continues to give all children access to a range of areas.

In year 4 you will have the opportunity to experience the following activities and topics:

  • A geographical study of Britain and beyond, including natural phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions
  • Forest School activities such as Nature Art, natural scavenger hunts and nest building
  • A study of Kings, Queens and the Tudors with contextual historical learning experiences
  • The Iron Man and Harry Potter books, rich in narrative and character-driven plots
  • The learning of a musical instrument – all children to learn to play the violin
  • Shakespeare’s Macbeth – the dark tale from Scotland of deceit, guilt and battle
  • Times table recall and accompanying division facts as well as contextual mathematical experiences

Homework in year 4 consists of weekly spellings, maths and mental maths or grammar activities. These will be given out  each Friday, to be returned in Thursday. Children will be tested every Friday. In addition to this, children will also be given a series of Talk Cards and technical vocabulary each half term. Children will have the opportunity to share what they have learnt in class.

  • Our Library session will be weekly – we will confirm the day
  • P.E. is on a Monday and Thursday
  • Reading packs to be in school everyday
  • Please arrive in school on time – doors open at 8.40am
