Robins

Dear Parents and Children,

I would like to welcome you and your child to Robins class. I hope you are ready for an exciting year of learning.

In Robins, your child will be developing their knowledge and skills in fun and creative ways through ARCS Curriculum. Real life skills taught in a real life context!

Our class routine is as follows:

Library
Library books should be brought in on Friday mornings and will be changed for the following week.

P.E.
We have a Relax Kids session on Tuesday afternoon – children can bring a cushion is they wish. PE is on Monday morning.

P.E. kits are to be left in school and taken home half termly for washing. Please support your child in becoming more independent when getting dressed.

Homework
Year 1 – Homework will be gradually introduced over the first term. It will be given out on Friday and expected back on Wednesday of the following week. Guidance will be provided. Please support your child with each piece of homework. Spellings should be practised regularly using ‘look, cover, write, check’ method, ready for a test on Thursday. Please make sure all homework is completed in pencil.

Year 2 – Children in year two will receive a piece of homework each week. This is to be completed independently but with adult supervision. Spellings will  also be given out on a weekly basis and test scores will be shared in the following weeks spelling list. Spellings should be practised regularly using ‘look, cover, write, check’ method, ready for a test on Thursday. Please make sure all homework is completed in pencil.

Uniform
Please ensure all clothing, including P.E. kits, pumps, shoes and coats have names in – either printed name labels or hand written in permanent pen. P.E. kit bags are available to purchase from the office.

Reading
We aim to hear your child read in a guided group at least once a week. Please ensure they bring their reading book to school every day. Please support your child by spending time every day listening to them read and practising their speed sounds. Encourage them to sound out tricky words using their fingers where necessary. Please read a wide range of additional texts with your child, this will aid them with reading and writing.

Transition
The transition from Reception to Year One is a big step. The children are expected to become more independent. Children have books for each Foundation subject. The children are expected to become more focused for longer periods of time and this often results in them becoming more tired in the first term. They quickly become used to expectations and very soon adapt to Key Stage One.

Please do not hesitate to contact me is you have any worries or concerns.

Thank you for your continual support,

Mr Monks
