Ladybirds

Dear Children and Parents,

Here is some information you will need in Ladybirds:

P.E.
We have P.E. sessions on Tuesday.
Please bring in a clearly named P.E. kit. We will just take off shoes and socks to begin with, then after a few weeks we will get changed into our kits. We appreciate it takes a while for your child to dress themselves and you may be tempted to dress them each day for school, but we will be teaching them to dress and undress themselves on P.E. days. Please help them to learn this life skill.

Letters and Sounds
We now follow the Read Write Inc Scheme, which is a synthetic approach, and we practise our sounds on a daily basis. When children begin Reception we teach four phonemes a week and teach the handwriting rhymes to aid correct formation of letters.

Reading
Children are given their first reading book as they become confident and can name 90% of the phonemes.
The books will go home on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday.
Parents – please take time to read with your child and talk about the text. This will develop their confidence and their love of reading.

Outdoor Play
In Early Years classes we have continuous outdoor play. Therefore, opportunities are provided to develop learning outdoors as well as indoors.
Parents – you can help your child by sending them dressed in a warm coat that they can fasten themselves.

Lunchtimes
Could you please ask your child what they would like for their lunch and send in a slip on a daily or weekly basis. This ensures your child will get a lunch they will eat and enjoy.

Library
We have our library sessions on a Wednesday. Your child will choose a book, take it home and return the following week to change it.

School Work
We will be doing lots of different and exciting topics through the year, which do change according to the children’s interests. Please see the link to our class matrix – it is on the curriculum page of the website.

We are really looking forward to spending the whole year with you. Please come to see us if you have any questions or concerns.
